Patisserie Jacob cafe and bakery opens at Haymarket

After a couple of years in their successful shop at Gorgie, Patisserie Jacob have branched out and opened their first cafe in Haymarket.

Husband and wife team Jacob and Erika Philip are delighted to have opened the doors  at Haymarket Terrace (near to Coates Gardens) and offer their familiar range of baked goods.

You can sit in the light and airy premises, or take your purchases away. Everything is freshly baked and there is a wide range of pies, quiches, sandwiches and soup (changes daily) to choose from at very reasonable prices.

Of course, in our eyes, no visit to Patisserie Jacob would be complete without sampling one of his cakes and our visit this afternoon saw us sample a slice of Amaretto cream cake (£2.95 sit-in).

Washed down with a pot of strawberry tea (£2.20) the light and fluffy affair didn’t last long.

My friend opted for a plum and almond tart (£2.95) which was also gone too soon.

Fairtrade and organic coffees are also available and are around the £2 mark.

Still very much in its infancy, Jacob plans to do a wider range of food, but judging by the empty counters at 5pm on a Friday afternoon, what they’ve been selling in their first few days has been very popular.

Takeway

You can also buy loose teas, coffees, biscuits to takeaway and devour in your own time.

Shelves of loaves, rolls and buns to take away sit near the door, with a sour dough loaf costing £2, a rosemary and garlic loaf £2.50 and Jacob’s legendary cinnamon buns at £1.
