Social Bite offers ‘suspended coffee’ service to help homeless in Edinburgh
After posting about Social Bite’s ‘suspended coffee’ service on our social media channels, the response was very positive.
Social Bite in Rose Street emailed to tell us you can now make a donation to their ‘Suspended Coffee’ service which pays for a coffee and/or food to a homeless person in Edinburgh.
Donations for hot drinks and/or food are accepted in the shop where you can also get great sandwiches, drinks and cakes with all profits going to social causes.
Each homeless person that visits the shop gets one token a day which they can exchange for a hot drink or some food.
You can also tell the next homeless person you see that there will be a coffee waiting for them, donated by a kind stranger.
Social Bite told us that the scheme has proven very popular so far and has had a real positive effect on the staff, customers and their homeless regulars.
Alan Mahon said: “There is no better time of year to focus on the problem of homelessness in Edinburgh than the next few months. Our customers know all about cold Scottish winters and how important a coffee can be at this time of year so we expect Suspended Coffee to really pay off for those in need over the winter months”.
We do hope that this scheme will continue to help the homeless, especially as the weather turns colder.
